After all this time, I'm still into you.

You and Yourself: The Highs and Lows of the Christian Faith

- Romans 12:3, 16
“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”

“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”

- James 4:10
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

- Matthew 23:12
“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought to. YOU and yourSELF are not the same thing.

God has so much promise for YOU. He wants to lift YOU up. Yourself can’t take you where God wants you to go. Yourself sabotages God’s plans for you.

- Genesis 11:4
“Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves.”

The thing about self is that if puts itself where God belongs. The issue is not so much about lifting up yourself, as much as pulling down God. If we overestimate ourselves, we underestimate God.

- Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now life in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

-Philippians 2:6-7
“[Jesus] Who, being in very nature, God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made human in likeness.”

Jesus made himself of no reputation to connect with us. He brought himself down to our level, lower than angels.

The problem with high things, with high living (the tower of Babel) is idolatry. Putting God UNDER things. Under ourselves. Self cannot take us where God wants us to go. But by the grace of God that we have any hope of seeing His promise.

Things that replace God:

1. Self confidence. Insecurity is the root to so many damaging things. So much is lost because of insecurity, and we want to be SELF-confident.
- Proverbs 14:26
“Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.”
- High on self-confidence = Low on God-expectation.

The moment we put ourselves above God, we start living like there is not God.

2. Worry. Worry is the underestimation of God.
- Psalm 30:5-7. Lord by YOUR favour, my mountains can stand strong.
- Romans 12:1-2
“Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God -this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

3. Depression.
- Psalm 142:6-7
“Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. Set me free from my prison, that I may praise Your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of Your goodness to me.”

We don’t have answers, but if we look to God, we will triumph. Because He is bigger.

God wants to lift your head; fill you with a God-given hope.

A lot of people never enter into God’s plan because of “I”. Use the measure of faith. Not by your hands but by the grace of God.

P.S. My notes don’t make sense. Sorry.
